The Best Nintendo Switch Games in 2022

Despite its age, the Nintendo Switch is perhaps the best video gaming console on the market. With PS5 and Xbox Series X consoles still in short supply, the Switch is the most easily accessible platform available.

The Switch OLED is our favorite, although the Nintendo Switch Lite is also available if you choose.

The Nintendo Switch features one of the best, most diverse, and most extensive game libraries of any console available.

Here are our picks for the finest Nintendo Switch games.

Breath of the Wild, a Legend of Zelda Game

Breath of the Wild was only the most popular game in 2017. Many consider this game to be the best ever created. The game managed to outsell the Nintendo Switch itself at launch.

I’m still not sure how that happened, but it did.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is a genuine masterpiece that distills the open-world genre down to its essential ingredients and rewrites its DNA for pure adventure.

Metroid Dread

We don’t get a fresh new Metroid game every day – or even every year – so we should embrace Metroid Dread for what it is.

Metroid Dread is an excellent continuation of the 2D Metroid canon, which includes classics such as Super Metroid and Metroid Fusion. It looks really good on the new OLED Switch. Get to work!

Super Mario Odyssey

Here’s a list of words that don’t even begin to describe Super Mario Odyssey: imaginative, bright, smart, smooth, happy, and creative.

Super Mario Odyssey is a Nintendo game that maintains The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild’s essence. Everything you thought you knew about Mario has been turned on its head. But here’s what’s left: flawlessly tuned, precision gameplay that feels amazing every time your hands touch the controller.

Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope

The original Mario + Rabbids was an astonishingly good and immensely successful turn-based strategy game. That was quite a feat for a genre that has usually been rather impenetrable, especially to younger people.

But, in practically every way, Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope beats its predecessor. It’s unquestionably one of the best new Nintendo Switch games.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has here, and it is fantastic. It not only contains the most characters (thus the “Ultimate”), but it also has the best single-player “campaign” mode of any Smash Bros. game to date. It’s also Smash Bros.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

Mario Kart 8 was first launched for the Wii U. It was fantastic back then. It’s even better now since there’s so much more content.

Little has changed, but Mario Kart 8 is as decisive as it gets. It’s chock-full of playable characters, creative music, and all-new features. It is still the most entertaining multiplayer game on the Nintendo Switch.

Neon White

Neon White is possibly the oddest genre mash-up ever. It’s a first-person speed runner with card-game features that shouldn’t make sense on paper, yet it’s already one of the best games of 2022 in practice. Neon White is a must-try if you’re seeking something completely unique and unlike anything you’ve ever played.

Portal: Companion Collection

This revolutionary new compilation combines the original two Portal games into one package. If you haven’t played any of these games, go straight to your Nintendo Switch and buy them.

Both are unrivaled masterpieces, but Portal 2 in particular is one of the best video games ever created. It could perhaps be the best period yet. This is as fantastic as video games get, a mind-bending puzzler with genuinely amusing comedy components.

Hollow Knight

Hollow Knight is one of the best Nintendo Switch games available. It’s a horrifyingly well-designed platformer in the style of Super Metroid. But it goes beyond that. The mood, the sound design, the graphics…

Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury

Super Mario 3D World is, in my humble opinion, the best game ever produced for young children. Especially if you’re a parent who wants to play with them. It’s straightforward; no reading is required. The levels are well-thought-out, open, and forgiving.

It also rules in every possible sense

When you add Bowser’s Fury, an experimental Mario title that potentially reveals where Nintendo will take the franchise next, the package becomes unbeatable. Play Super Mario 3D World with your children, and then Bowser’s Fury before they go to bed. Perfect.
